I wanted to update you regarding the progression for Safari. No precise ETA yet, but “soon”.
We had so many issues to fix to make it work and thankfully the latest updates of the browser eased the development by providing more up to date JavaScript API.
So far, it now works on my machine for the day to day usage. We are trying to put it on TestFlight for internal testing and then external testing before an official release. The goal is to test thoroughly the application to make sure there are no surprises here or there. Also putting on external test triggers a review from Apple and this is critical for us as they have the final word to reject or approved the application for a publication. Passbolt has its own constraints to setup accounts and all which impact the reviewers. We are figuring out what we can provide them in order to start proper testing and see what testing procedure they accept.
So so far, no accurate ETA but we’ve never been that close to a first working version.
We had hoped to get it out sooner. Unfortunately, it is currently awaiting review on Apple’s side. It has been 2 to 3 weeks now with a few back-and-forth exchanges. We are down to just a few remaining points for them to validate, but since the ball is in their court, it is impossible for me to give you any ETA (trust me, I would love to have even the slightest clue about when they might pick it back up!).
For information, the first official public release will be considered a beta release for two reasons:
Because it’s the first public release and we may uncover a few things to fix along the way.
Because we’d like third-party services to carry out a security audit before we drop the “beta” label.
That said, feedback is incredibly valuable to us as it helps deliver the best experience possible. That’s why we’ve been discussing the idea of setting up a TestFlight group with early testers.
If you’re interested, here’s a dedicated topic to explain how to access it https://community.passbolt.com/t/passbolt-safari-extension-now-available-in-open-beta/14182. I’ll give you a TestFlight link. Careful though, even if we tested it thoroughly, it’s still not validated by Apple as well; it could still be a bit buggy who knows, so don’t forget to backup your data and all, just in case of .
And if you’d rather wait, a public announcement about the Passbolt Safari extension is coming soon anyway.
Cheers,
P.S.: TestFlight groups are usually limited in size, so I unfortunately can’t guarantee I’ll be able to register everyone !
