Release Date: July 9th, 2025
Passbolt v5.3.0 is available, introducing custom fields, one of the top-five community request features. Custom fields let users attach additional key‑value pairs to a resource or as a standalone one. Ideal for CI/CD secrets and environment variables that outgrow plain notes. (It’s still beta, so handle it with care!)
Custom fields rely on encrypted metadata, therefore the feature is still in beta and is not yet available on Passbolt Cloud. The feature is set to become fully stable in v5.4 this August.
Passbolt docs now also cover clear admin guidance on resource metadata encryption. You can check that out in the help site.
This release also brings performance enhancements for faster folder browsing, plus community-reported bug fixes across the browser extension and API.
Passbolt v5.3.1 “Beautiful People” is also available. This hot fix resolves the issue that blocked saving standalone custom-field resources.
