What’s in Passbolt 5.6.0?

Standalone notes

You can now create standalone notes: secure, text-based secrets that aren’t tied to a password or TOTP. Ideal for SSH keys, certificates, or configuration snippets, standalone notes bring flexibility without sacrificing security.

Each note is encrypted, auditable, and fully shareable, just like any other Passbolt resource. Notes support up to 50 KB of text, and import/export flows have been updated to automatically recognize text-only entries as standalone notes.

Resizable sidebars

Make Passbolt fit your workspace, not the other way around.
Sidebars in the main workspace and Users & Groups view are now resizable, letting you see long folder names or deeply nested structures without endless scrolling.

Drag to resize or double-click to reset, it’s that simple.

Shared metadata key rotation

Admins can now rotate the shared metadata key directly from organization settings, no downtime required.

This feature improves both compliance and control: you can enforce periodic key rotation or rekey your environment when a team member leaves, ensuring that only current users can decrypt newly encrypted metadata.

It’s another milestone toward full control of encrypted metadata and a key part of our zero-knowledge architecture.

Fixes & improvements

This release also includes numerous quality-of-life improvements:

  • Group management performance: large updates are now split into smaller API requests, preventing timeouts on big orgs.

  • Import/export handling: standalone notes now automatically recognized and processed correctly.

  • General polish: smoother UI interactions, minor bug fixes, and backend stability improvements.
