Struggling to self create ssl cerificates

I am using ubuntu 20 and I want to create a ssl certificate using letsencrypt. When i enter the ip address it’s giving an error, it can not encrypt a bare ip address. and when i put the domain its still not going through. Can anyone please help me to get the ssl certificate

Indeed Let’s Encrypt will not work with an IP address. Regarding the domain name issues, there is two things to consider:

  • Port 80 should be opened because its used for the challenge
  • You pointed your domain name to the IP address using DNS (creating an A record)
