Usability issues on Android

So, im trying multiple password managers, ive been using vaultwarden for the past few months and it hasnt been the best experience, it doesnt do multiple fields, sometimes it shows ect.. just weird issues.
I love passbolts Desktop browser extenstion, the desktop app is great but the android experience is absolutely terrible.

Desktop

  • Go to ebay
  • Click login
  • Click Passbolt icon, immediatly see usernames (Just for ebay)
  • Click username
  • Press Sign in
  • Click Passbolt icon, immediatly see usernames
  • Click corresponding username
  • Login

Any Android Browser

  • Go to ebay
  • Tap Form
  • Tap ‘Select from Passbolt’
  • Scan fingerprint
  • wait a second or two for app to load
  • wait several more seconds for it to load every username on my account, yes there are suggestions at the -top but its clunky unless you wait to the loading circle to disappear ← WHY!!!
  • Tap the username
  • THEN TAP ‘Fill with Passbolt’ ← WHY!!!
  • Tap Continue
  • Tap Form
  • Tap ‘Select from Passbolt’
  • Scan fingerprint AGAIN ←WHY!!!
  • Wait a second or two for app to load
  • Wait several more seconds for it to load every username on my account, yes there are suggestions at the top but its clunky unless you wait to the loading circle to disappear ← WHY!!!
  • Select corresponding username
  • Tap ‘Fill with Passbolt’ AGAIN ← WHY, WHY
  • Tap Sign in

after logging in to anywhere with passbolt on android, im left enraged

every other password manager including bitwarden,
A. Sessions the login (sign in once, keeps you signed in until X reason)
B. Adds the list to the top of your keyboard (so even if you go to the next page to enter a password, its still there so you can tap it)
C. Provides a list only for the Url you are on
D. AUTOFILLS

Who on earth thought this was a good idea, everything about passbolt is great, its an amazing peice of software, but wtf is going on with the android experience, 15 clicks, 30-60s to login to ebay

It should be

  • Go to ebay
  • Tap Passbolt Icon (Doesn’t need to be a big clunky textbox blocking the form, just a logo)
  • Scan finger
  • Quickly Shows only relevant logins
  • Tap Username (Its then auto filled in)
  • Tap Continue
  • Either Keyboard has the last of username or an automatic popup of the usernames
  • Tap corresponding username
  • Tap Sign in

Hello @iOnic-Developer and welcome to the forum!

Thanks for taking the time to share such detailed feedback, we really appreciate it.
I’ve slightly adjusted your post title to make it a bit more neutral; I totally understand the frustration when something doesn’t work as smoothly as expected, but we try to keep discussions friendly for everyone

Talking about the Android experience, what you’re describing is actually expected behaviour. Some websites like eBay, OpenAI, or Google use two separate login forms e.g., one for the email, and then a new one for the password. Each form triggers a distinct autofill request, which is why you need to select “Fill with Passbolt” twice. It’s not that the app doesn’t remember your choice, it’s simply how Android’s autofill system handles separate form contexts.

The confirmation steps (like pressing “Fill with Passbolt” again or scanning your fingerprint) are intentional for security reasons. Many users have several accounts for the same website, and the app can’t safely assume which one to fill automatically. The repeated fingerprint prompts also prevent credentials from being reused silently in the background.

If it’s taking around 30–60 seconds, that likely comes from how long your device takes to reach your Passbolt server and decrypt your secrets. The desktop browser extension feels faster because it keeps more session data cached locally and can inject directly into the webpage, whereas Android is sandboxed and has to reload data each time, also it’s important to note that the autofill on mobile (iOS/Android) are a feature controlled at the OS-level.

I have to say that it’s great to hear that you enjoy passbolt overall. We always try to find the right balance between usability and security, and your feedback helps us see where the experience can be smoother without compromising that balance. For cases like eBay with multi-step forms, it would be interesting to hear how you’d ideally see the flow working while still keeping the same level of security.

Best regards
