Q1. What is the problem that you are trying to solve?
If I need to connect to a portal, from the Windows App I need to copy the username, and then I need to copy the password. Which is too many manipulations.
Autotyping the username and password would be useful, juste like Keepass does.
For a given username/password combo, a user could override a standard autotype sequence.
Q2 - Who is impacted?
All Windows Desktop App users.
Q3 - Why is it important and/or urgent?
Without this, I may stop using the Windows App and get back to KeePass.
I want to be able to use Passbolt to log in apps outside a browser. Windows App respond to this need, but its usage is painful. Having this ASAP would be a game changer.
Q4 - What is your proposed solution? (optional)
As a logged in user in the Windows Desktop App, I can right-click a password an choose Autotype. The overriden autotype sequence is played and username + password are typed in the app.
This behavior should be exactly handled as it is in KeePass.
Q5. Community support
People can vote for this idea to show traction:
Must have: this is critical for me to have this
Should have: this is important for me to have this
Could have: this could be nice to have
Won’t have: we should not schedule this (explain why)
not a passbolt user yet, but my company plans to move to it. I’m currently a Keepass user.
I’d like to add to the feature request (“This behavior should be exactly handled as it is in KeePass”) that Keepass allows to have different autotype sequences based on the target window name. That’s a huge benefit.
For instance, besides the browser, I have distinct 3 apps that allow me to connect to my work environments.
has autotype sequence {tab}username{tab}password
has autotype sequence url{tab}username{tab}password
has autotype sequence username{tab}password{tab}url+subfolder
It’s vital for me to be able to have customizable autotype sequences based on the window name.
In addition, Keepass has me define those autotype sequences for each of my password entries that require it. If I need to review one of my autotype sequences (e.g. app has updated its window title when a new version is published), I have to do it on multiple entries.
It would be better to have autotype sequences templates that can be attached to password entries.
I would be interested in the current status of this topic. Is Autotype planned like with KeePass and if so, when would it be implemented? Such a function would be an absolute game changer. For my company with over 800 users, this would be the missing decisive argument for introducing Passbolt.
Is there any progress on this matter?
Our company is looking into a successor for Keepass as well, and this looks very promising once the Auto-Type is implemented.
I would hate to see this solution skipped just because of this.
