Upgrading to newer versions

Its been a while since we completed an upgrade and current version is 3.10.0 and the latest version is 4.5.1 so will a normal upgrade work or is this too big of a jump? Its the pro edition hosted on the passbolt VM appliance.

That large of a jump should work but there is a chance it won’t due to the php version that is available on the VM. Which version of debian is your VM?

If it is too old you might want to just migrate to a new VM. Which if you run into any issues or need assistance you can directly email us as you are using PRO which comes with support

Its the pro appliance vm. Hostnamectl gives me:

Debian GNU/Linux 11 (Bullseye)
Kernel: Linux 5.10.0-20-amd65

In that case the update should be fine and get you to 4.5.0(4.5.1 is a browser extension only version).

A note though is that we will eventually require php 8.1 or higher so you will run into an issue with debian 11 at some point. When that happens you’ll be able to either migrate to a debian 12 instance or do an in place upgrade to debian 12. I’d recommend the migrate when that day comes though
