The passbolt browser extension is made to run along with a passbolt API server. If I understood well your use case (you want to host yourself the passbolt API server), it should work for you.
If you are in another use case, could you please describe it ?

You’re welcome. This was indeed delayed. We had other high priority features to ship before (MFA, Ldap admin panel, bulk actions …), however the quick access is already in the pipe, so bear with us with the timeline estimates.
