Install firefox extension offline

I’m trying to install the firefox extension from a network without access to internet but it seems that it needs internet access to be able to install.

Is there a way around this?

Hello,

Yes it’s possible:

  1. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/passbolt/
  2. Right click on the button “add to firefox” and save the XPI file
  3. Move the XPI file to your protected network
  4. Open the browser and go to about:addons
  5. Click on the little cog button and then “install from file”.

You need to repeat this operations each time there is a release of the addon (firefox will update the extension automatically with the new file), which can be cumbersome if you have a lot of users.

Another option, which require a bit more technical knowledge, would be to get the source code, compile the addon with a custom update url on your private network. At least this way you can still update all the addons at once.

I hope this helps,

I did this and after the “install Add-on from file” it just hangs at “Downloaded…” and nothing happens

Normally you should see a popup asking you to approve as follow:

Which version of firefox are you using?

I’m using Firefox 62.0

Can you take screenshot of what you are seeing?

It comes in 2 parts.

Right after doing the install from file nothing happens.

After refreshing the page I get this :

Which operating system is it? (i’m unable to reproduce this)

I’m running Ubuntu 16.04
