[PB-28053] As a user I can configure passbolt browser extension to work with multiple passbolt instances

,

Q1. What is the problem that you are trying to solve?
We use passbolt for a hobby project, where I work with a team of several technical people. The concept is so convincing, that passbolt now becomes very interesting for me also to be used in my professional background with other teams, which means, I would be using different instances of passbolt. But for now, as far as I understand, the browser extension can only be used with one instance of passbolt.

Q2 - Who is impacted?
People use passbolt in multiple orgs.

Q3 - Why is it important and/or urgent?
TBD.

Q4 - What is your proposed solution? (optional)
So it would be great, if the passbolt browser extension supported more than a single passbolt setup.

My workaround to separate hobby and professional stuff is to use different browser identities within chrome. For this usecase it is very reasonable, but I don’t want to create several professional browser identities just for different professional projects with different teams, because there are multiple passbolt instances involved.

Q5. Community support
People can vote for this idea to show traction:

  • :ok_woman: Must have: this is critical for me to have this
  • :raising_hand_woman: Should have: this is important for me to have this
  • :tipping_hand_woman: Could have: this could be nice to have
  • :no_good_woman: Won’t have: we should not schedule this (explain why)

Definitly +1 from me.
We have Passbolt setup at work and soon after using it I’ve setup a personal one at my NAS at home and also a shared one for my family & friends…
Right now I have different portable Firefox folders, depending on what I want to access, that I carry around from machine to machine.

Big +1 too.
I’ve been using Passbolt CE for the past 2.5 years without any major issue and now we are planning to deploy a pro instance at work. Unfortunately, I’m mixing both work and non-work related stuff on my browser, which makes the use of multiple Firefox profiles a bit harder  .

Hi @remy,

I’ll have some free time in the next months and I was wondering if you would be interested in an external contribution on this subject ?

On my side, I’m especially interested by this feature as the company I’m working at will be deploying a Passbolt Pro instance in a few weeks and I would need this feature to go with my personal Passbolt instance.

Thanks !

Hi @CAubin,

For sure we would welcome community contribution such as this one. Feel free to get in touch with us at contact@passbolt.com so that we can setup a call to discuss this. We have some pretty heavy handed work coming up the extension (migrating more of the appjs to the extension, and migrating the framework to react), so we should coordinate. We can also help you show you where is what, and discuss/validate an approach.

Talk soon,

Sure, let’s do that  .

+1 for this feature from me. I would like to be able to click on the PB add-on in my browser, and be able to select between my personal account, my regular work account, and my work admin account.

+1, That would be very practical for me.

I am in charge of the adminior account of the Passbolt CE server in my company, and it would be very practical not to use 2 different browsers (one for my account in the company, one for the administrator account).

I am in the same boat at Matthieu, my IT account and my employee account are two separate accounts, and its a pain switching between the two.

We also have a high demand for such a feature, as we have several workstations that are used by multiple employees. Using different browser profiles is a workaround, but as those employees usually have the same function and some even switch seats multiple times a day, this gets rather cumbersome…

Also for me as the admin it would be nice to simply switch between admin and normal account.

For me it is a show stopper. I cannot recommend new installations in new places as I’ll be unable to use them.
It would be awesome to just say “hey I know a tool that will be perfect here!”.

reviving this ISSUE… still needed here :frowning:
Thanks fo caring!

Hey, +1 from me!

I’ve seen this post: https://community.passbolt.com/t/how-can-use-two-different-passbolt-profiles-on-same-computer/4556, but this isn’t a solution for me. Are there similar how-to’s for Firefox somewhere?
